Born in Sanremo, Ciro Perrino started his career playing percussion and drums after completing his musical studies. In 1970 he founded the progressive group Il Sistema, which was to become one of the most respected bands in Italy.

In 1972 he became a member of Celeste; the band’s only album, Principe Di Un Giorno (released in 1976), has since become something of a cult collectors’ item amongst followers of progressive music. In 1980 his first solo record, Solare, was released, an instrumental concept album which dedicated each of the eight tracks to a planet of the solar system.

After a ten year break from the music scene he came back with Far East; for his listeners, it was a beautifully evocative and metaphorical voyage to an East both ancient and modern. Moon In The Water followed in 1994, an elegant and confident fusion of classical and electronic music for which Perrino gathered, not for the last time, some of the most respected classical musicians in Europe.

Wishing to remain essentially a composer for whom boldness and innovation are key, Ciro Perrino ended the millennium with De Rerum Natura, a technically adventurous yet eminently accessible album; his latest work, L’Isola, based around the concept of a contemplative walk around a 16th century monastery is out and available in the UK now.
